Memory House

Memory House by Bette Lee Crosby is an intriguing novel.  I was captured and drawn in from the first page. Do you believe that objects can hold memories?   Ophelia Browne owns a small home where she has an apothecary in the former parlor and rents out two rooms as well. Ophelia lives in Burnsville, Virginia.  Burnsville is a small town outside Richmond. One day Annie Cross comes knocking at Ophelia’s door.

Annie needed to get away.  Her apartment holds reminders of her relationship with Michael Stavros.  Their relationship had been floundering when one day he was gone and a note was left.  Annie decides to get away for a few days and finds herself in Burnsville.  When Annie walks in to Ophelia’s home, she smells something wonderful.  It is remembrance potpourri.   It will let you smells things that bring your happiness.  Annie’s original three day stay turned into a week.  While staying with Ophelia, Annie gets hooked on dandelion tea (sounds disgusting).  This tea helps unlock Annie’s hidden powers.

Ophelia is thrilled to see Annie.  She thinks Annie is the one who will take over for her.  Ophelia is almost ninety and no Browne woman lives long past ninety.  Ophelia has been along for over sixty years (her husband, Edward, when he was thirty).  Ophelia starts slowly with Annie because she does not want to scare her away.   Ophelia introduces her to the world of memories hidden within objects.  Not every object will hold a memory.  Only special objects will hold memories.  Ophelia can only get happy memories from objects.  What types of memories will Annie be able to obtain from special objects?

Memory House takes Annie on a journey.  A journey to a new life, a new love, and untapped potential.  Ophelia finds a wonderful friend and companion.  Memory House is a lovely story.  I give 5 out of 5 stars.  It is unusual to find a book that will capture and hold your attention.  It is a book that you want to end to see what happens, but, at the same time, you do not want it to end.  I hope you find the Memory House as delightful and enjoyable a book as I did.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Memory House is only $.99 on Amazon.   I have not read any other books by Bette Lee Crosby, but now I will be on the hunt for her other novels.

Thank you for checking out my review and Happy Reading!
