The Beekeeper's Bride by Mollie Cox Bryan

Happy Valentine's Day

 The Beekeeper's Bride

Book Summary

When Josefina “Joey” Roma moves to Virginia with her sisters, she’s looking for a fresh start. Their fiber arts and weaving company, Three Sisters Roma, keeps Joey focused—and drained. When a sexy beekeeper-slash-veterinarian rescues her and her new lambs from a swarm of bees on a country roadside, she had no idea how ‘fresh’ her life would turn. She hadn’t expected a man with a cocky attitude, cool confidence, and a pair of blue, blue, blue eyes…
Arran Brody, home after his mother’s death to help turn around his family’s honey farm, is still trying to reconcile his feelings around his recently wed father. Exhausted, he's ready to give up and return to his vet practice in Vermont. But, when he rescues Joey from her road-side bee dilemma, he may have found the answer to “settle the bees” in his own heart.
My Thoughts

The Beekeeper’s Bride by Mollie Cox Bryan is an amusing romance.  It is a short story (71 pages).  There is a lively meet cute between Joey Roma and Arran Brody.  The lambs, Petunia and Uncle Guido, were sweet.  Due to the length of the story, there is a lack of character development.  I like the Roma family business Three Sisters Roma.  I could envision the artistic creations they produce.  The pieces they created for the contest sounded amazing.  The story does contain mild foul language.  I enjoyed the humor sprinkled throughout the tale.  The Beekeeper’s Bride is a lighthearted romance with busy bees, adorable lambs, feuding families, fabulous fiber arts, and rapid romance.

The Beekeeper's Bride is available from Amazon*.  If you are a Kindle Unlimited member, you can read The Beekeeper's Bride for free.  You can find Mollie Cox Bryan's other novels here.  Thank you for stopping by today.  Tomorrow I am a stop on the Celebrate Lit tour for Rachael's Decision by Molly Jebber.  It is the sixth book in The Amish Charm Bakery series.  I hope you have a very Happy Valentine's Day!  I put together little gift bags for my neighbors with sweet treats (chocolates, cookies, and Conversation Hearts) along with some practical (heart pencil and eraser) and fun items (fidget toys, squishies).  I left them on their door handles during the night so they would have a surprise this morning.  Did you get something special for Valentine's Day?  My mother got me some cute character socks (I like to wear socks with Disney characters on them).  I got her a cardinal suncatcher and a sock money mug (she loves the sock monkey).  I hope that you have a lovely day.  Take care and Happy Reading!

Victoria Town Mysteries by Mollie Cox Bryan

My Thoughts

Victoria Town Mysteries by Mollie Cox Bryan contains Killer Spring Fling, Masquerade Murder, and Merry Scary Victorian Christmas.  These are the first three books in A Victoria Town Mystery series.  These three lighthearted tales allow us to get to know Viv Barton who has moved to Victoria Town, Virginia.  Viv lives with her Aunt Libby who owns Sweet Victoria’s Bed and Breakfast.  She helps in the B&B and works part-time at Mourning Arts.  These three tales each have a mystery that Viv works to solve.  I like how the author has developed the characters over the course of the series.  I enjoy the direction the author has taken Viv.  It suits her natural curiosity, and it utilizes her mad computer skills.  Aunt Libby is such a sweet woman.  She is a great character with a fabulous bed and breakfast.  I love the descriptions of Victoria Town.  It reminds me of German Village where I grew up as well as the Victorian town that is nearby. There is also wonderful word imagery of Victorian items such as fans, jewelry, clothing, and furniture.  I like the PI we are introduced to in Merry Scary Victorian Christmas.  I enjoyed the humor in the stories.  I enjoy Mollie Cox Bryan’s writing style.  It has an ease to it which makes the stories easy to read and enjoy.  Victoria Town Mysteries contains three lighthearted mystery novellas with spring fling fun, a masked murderer, a tragic tea, a poisoned person, a striking sleuth, and copious quantities of cookies.

Victoria Town Mysteries is available from Amazon*.  It can be borrowed through Kindle Unlimited. My mother loves this program.  She borrows books from them daily. You can find Mollie Cox Bryan's other novels here.  Thank you for stopping by today and reading my review.  Next time I am featuring Killer Content by Olivia Blacke.  It is the first book in A Brooklyn Murder Mystery series.  I hope that you have a peaceful day.  Take care, be kind, and Happy Reading!

Merry Scary Victorian Christmas by Mollie Cox Bryan

Merry Scary Victorian Christmas

Book Summary

Merry Scary Victorian Christmas by Mollie Cox Bryan has Viv Barton helping her Aunt Libby with Sweet Victoria B & B’s Annual Christmas Tea.  They have fifty people in attendance which has the two of them hopping.  All the sudden there is a scream that has Viv and Aunt Libby running towards the conservatory where they find a woman on the floor.  Viv checks for a pulse and is unable to find one.  The police learn that the victim was poisoned, and when they search the house, they find the murder weapon in Aunt Libby’s basement.  Aunt Libby becomes the prime suspect which does not sit well with Viv.  Viv needs to be subtle in her sleuthing because one wrong move could get Aunt Libby tossed in the clink.  She needs to work quickly if they are going to celebrate Christmas with their friends instead of at the state penitentiary.

My Thoughts

Merry Scary Victorian Christmas by Mollie Cox Bryan is the 3rd A Victoria Town Mystery Novella.  This short cozy mystery can be read as a standalone if you are new to the series or have missed a tale.  Merry Scary Victorian Christmas is well-written, and it moves along at a quick pace.  Viv Barton is settling into Victoria Town, Virginia where she works and lives with her Aunt Libby at Sweet Victoria Bed and Breakfast.  Viv also works part-time at Mourning Arts for Irene.  The characters are developing suitably.  I like the direction that the author is taking with Viv.  It suits her natural curiosity, and it utilizes her mad computer skills.  Aunt Libby is such a sweet woman.  She is a great character with a fabulous bed and breakfast.  I enjoy the descriptions of Victoria Town.  It reminds me of German Village where I grew up as well as the Victorian town that is nearby. There is also wonderful word imagery of Victorian items such as fans, jewelry, clothing, and furniture.  The village is especially magical at Christmas time with carolers singing Christmas songs and the lovely decorations.  The mystery suited the story and its length.  There are a couple of suspects along with good clues to help readers solve it before the reveal scene.  The reveal or capture was a hoot that had me laughing.  We are introduced to a private investigator that has Viv (and others) drooling.  It will be interesting to see what happens with the handsome PI in the future.  The ending was heartwarming and jolly.  Merry Scary Victorian Christmas is a delightful Christmas cozy mystery with seasonal salutation strain, a poisoned person, a striking sleuth, a tragic tea, copious quantities of cookies, and cheering Christmas carols.

Merry Scary Victorian Christmas is available from Amazon*.  The two other novels in A Victoria Town Mystery Novellas are Killer Spring Fling and Masquerade Murder.   All three are available through Kindle Unlimited.  You can find Mollie Cox Bryan's other novels here.  Thank you for reading my review today.  Tomorrow I am a stop on the Celebrate Lit Tour for The Amish Christmas Wedding by Amy Clipston, Kelly Irvin, Kathleen Fuller, and Vannetta Chapman.  I hope you will join me.  May you have a joyful day.  Take care, be kind, and Happy Reading!

Killer Spring Fling by Mollie Cox Bryan

My Thoughts

Killer Spring Fling by Mollie Cox Bryan has Viv Barton living in Victoria Town, Virginia at her Aunt Libby’s Sweet Victoria’s Bed and Breakfast.  Viv is a computer game designer, but she was laid off six months ago.  The town is a haven for those who love Victorian times and items.  The town is gearing up for the Spring Fling including Aunt Libby.    Viv is walking in Rosethorn, a local cemetery, looking for the wildflower, Blue Topsy.  Aunt Libby needs it for the cake for the Spring Fling reception at the bed and breakfast.  Instead of finding the needed wildflower, Viv finds a dead woman surrounded by unusual objects.  Viv soon learns that the woman’s death could be connected to a game being played by local teens.  Viv decides to do some sleuthing on her own to see if she can unmask the killer.  Killer Spring Fling is a is a lighthearted cozy mystery.  I thought Killer Spring Fling was easy to read and had an interesting premise.  Due to the short length of the novella, there is little character development and the mystery lacks depth.  I felt we needed more details about Viv, Aunt Libby, and the town.  I enjoyed the descriptions of the town and the Victorian items.  Viv might have found her niche with Victorian mourning jewelry.  A Victoria Town Mystery has potential.  I hope we learn more about our main characters and the town in Masquerade Murder.  Killer Spring Fling is a short, diverting cozy mystery.

Killer Spring Fling is available from Amazon*.  The next novella A Victoria Town Mystery Novella is Masquerade Murder.  Both books are available through Kindle Unlimited.  The picture above is from Ohio Village in Columbus where they have Victorian Christmas each year.  Thank you for stopping by today and reading my review.  Brought to Book by Barbara Cornthwaite is scheduled for tomorrow as part of a Celebrate Lit Tour.  It is debut of Wilkester Mysteries.  I hope that you have a lovely day.  Take care, be kind, and Happy Reading!

Little Bookshop of Murder: Review & Giveaway!

Little Bookshop of Murder

A Beach Reads Mystery

by Maggie Blackburn

About Little Bookshop of Murder

Cozy Mystery
1st in Series
Publisher: Crooked Lane Books (September 8, 2020)
Hardcover
ISBN-10: 1643854380
ISBN-13: 978-1643854380
Digital ASIN: B0818ZX2NY
A Shakespearean scholar inherits a beachside bookshop--and a murder mystery--in this delightful new cozy series for fans of Kate Carlisle and Ellery Adams.

Summer Merriweather's career as a Shakespeare professor hangs by a bookbinder's thread. Academic life at her Virginia university is a viper's pit, so Summer spends her summer in England, researching a scholarly paper that, with any luck, will finally get her published, impress the Dean, and save her job. But her English idyll ends when her mother, Hildy, shuffles off her mortal coil from an apparent heart attack.

Returning to Brigid's Island, NC, for the funeral, Summer is impatient to settle the estate, sell her mom's embarrassingly romance-themed bookstore, Beach Reads, and go home. But as she drops by Beach Reads, Summer finds threatening notes addressed to Hildy: "Sell the bookstore or die."

Clearly, something is rotten on Brigid's Island. What method is behind the madness? Was Hildy murdered? The police insist there's not enough evidence to launch a murder investigation. Instead, Summer and her Aunt Agatha screw their courage to the sticking place and start sleuthing, with the help of Hildy's beloved book club. But there are more suspects on Brigid's Island than are dreamt of in the Bard's darkest philosophizing. And if Summer can't find the villain, the town will be littered with a Shakespearean tragedy's worth of corpses--including her own.

My Thoughts

Little Bookshop of Murder by Maggie Blackburn has Summer Merriweather returning home to Brigid’s Island, North Carolina after the death of her mother.  Summer does not believe that her healthy mother suddenly dropped dead from a heart attack.  Summer receives a threatening note the day of the funeral and learns her mother had been receiving them as well.  Something wicked has come into their lives and Summer intends to get answers.
Wee bookstore
Little Bookshop of Murder is the debut of A Beach Reads Mystery series.  Summer Merriweather is a professor of Shakespearean Literature at a university in Virginia.  She has been in England doing research for her latest book (publish or perish).  She returns home just in time for her mother’s funeral.  Summer is dubious from the beginning at the cause of her mother’s death.  The police, though, cannot act without proof.  So, Summer with help from her family sets out to get the truth. There is a large cast of characters that includes Summer, her cousin, her aunt, the chief of police, fire chief, and members of the Mermaid Pie Book Club. I would like to see the characters fleshed out.  They felt a little flat except for Mr. Darcy, the chatty African Grey parrot.   There are various incidents that help propel the story forward and reinforce the belief that Summer’s mother may have been killed by a duplicitous individual.  The suspect list is small and there are distinctive clues.  The killer can easily be identified long before Summer solves the case. I hope the author ups her game in the next book.   I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of Beach Reads, the bookshop owned by Summer’s mother.  It sounded like a haven for book lovers except for the smell of patchouli.  There were some side stories like Summer’s spider phobia that never really went anywhere.  I expected at least one spider episode.  There is some foul language in this cozy.  I am curious as to what changes Summer plans for Beach Reads which specializes in romances. I also wonder if Summer will find romance with a certain handsome fire chief.   Little Bookshop of Murder transports readers to Brigid’s Island where there is a fluent fowl, a dubious death, a beautiful beach bungalow, a curious cousin, a flock of food, and one Shakespearean scholar turned sleuth.
The Last Bookstore La Drewfolgmann Ishootwhatever
Little Bookshop of Murder is available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo.  The authors next release is Masquerade Murder which publishes on September 29.  It is the 2nd book in A Victoria Town Mystery series.   You can find the author's other novels here. Now for the giveaway!  One winner will receive a digital copy of Killer Spring Fling and a $10 Amazon Gift Card.  To enter, click here or use the Rafflecopter form below (go past my signature).  Do not forget to leave a comment for an extra entry.  Good Luck!  Thank you for stopping by today.  I will return tomorrow with A Portrait of Loyalty by Roseanna M. White.   It is the 3rd installment in The Codebreakers.  I hope that you have a happy day.  Take care, be kind, and Happy Reading!

Christmas Cow Bells by Mollie Cox Bryan

Hello!  Murder in the First Edition by Lauren Elliott comes out tomorrow along with Fudge Bites by Nancy Coco and An Amish Second Christmas by Shelley Shepard Gray, Patricia Johns, and Virginia Wise.  Stitches in Time by Suzanne Woods Fisher releases on October 1.  It is the second book in The Deacon's Family series.  Mumbo Gumbo Murder by Laura Childs publishes on October 1 and it is the sixteenth A Scrapbooking Mystery with Carmela Bertrand.   I wish there were more hours in the day!  So many wonderful new books and not enough time to read.
South Devon cows grazing on supplementary early winter feed. This very old European breed with obscure origins was standardised in 1891. It is primarily a beef breed but also yields good milk production.
Christmas Cow Bells by Mollie Cox Bryan sends readers to Shenandoah Springs, Virginia in December.  Brynn MacAlister is the new owner of Buttermilk Creek Farm, an organic micro-diary.  Brynn is a cheesemaker who has dreamed of owning her own farm where she can control the whole process from what the cow eats to the label on her finished cheese.  Brynn is getting off to a rough start with her new neighbors because Petunia’s bellows can be heard throughout the town.  The poor cow is mourning the loss of her stillborn calf.  Brynn is happy to have Nancy Scors, another newcomer, living next door.  Nancy is converting Old Glebe Church into Old Glebe Market where farmers can sell their products year round (produce, honey, cheese, etc.).  Unfortunately, not everyone is excited about Nancy’s renovations.  Brynn is awakened during the night when she hears fire sirens and looks outside to see the Old Glebe Church is in flames.  Nancy passes away from her injuries and the fire is ruled arson.  Brynn is upset over the loss of her friend and how slow the case is progressing, so she begins making queries. Brynn’s questioning seems to have hit a nerve when a series of incidents begin happening on the farm.  With Christmas fast approaching, Brynn is determined to wrap up the case and deliver the guilty party to the police.
Allow the kids to have a chance to milk a cow and try the milk
Christmas Cows Bells by Mollie Cox Bryan is the debut of A Buttermilk Creek Mystery series.  I like the author’s conversational writing style (like chatting with a friend) which makes for a pleasing reading experience.  Brynn MacAlister got her love of Red Devon cows from her grandmother and fell into cheesemaking after taking a course in college.  Her degree in chemistry came in handy when she attended cheese school.  I like that the author took the time to establish our main character.  We get to learn what brought her to Shenandoah Springs, her background, and learn about her family.  There are beautiful descriptions of Shenandoah Springs, Brynn’s farm and the surrounding area.  We are introduced to a variety of locals who belong to the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.  It was interesting to learn about a micro-dairy and what goes into making cheese.  Brynn has a unique concept.  Brynn’s three cows (Marigold, Buttercup, and Petunia) each have their own personality and I felt bad for poor Petunia.  Freckles, the dog, was a delightful addition to the story.  I look forward to seeing more of Wes Scors, Nancy’s grandson, in the next book.  He is a friendly young man who is a talented cook and wishes to learn cheesemaking.  The fire at Old Glebe Church and then Nancy’s death has Brynn scared and she wants answers.  When she becomes frustrated with the slow progress on the case, Brynn decides to do a little digging on her own (not a gouda idea).  Unfortunately, Brynn has angered the guilty party.  A series of escalating incidents begin happening at Buttermilk Creek Farm.  Brynn uncovers a handful of suspects in her search for the guilty party.  Brynn is a newbie sleuth, so her skills need honing, but she does search for suspects, ask questions, and does some online sleuthing.  I would like to see the mysteries become more complex as the series progresses.  I like how we get to see cows as more than milk producers.  They are sweet creatures who have feelings and like to be petted.  Their playful antics were adorable, and I found Petunia’s reaction to Freckles to be delightful.  Christmas Cow Bells is an appealing new cozy mystery with clanking cow bells, heavenly hard cheese, a crotchety curmudgeon, a freaky fire, and a charming cheesemaker.
Homemade Burrata by Eva Kosmas Flores | Adventures in Cooking
Christmas Cow Bells comes out September 24 and is available for pre-order at Amazon (Amazon UK) as well as other major booksellers.  Mollie Cox Bryan also writes A Cora Crafts Mystery series and A Cumberland Creek Mystery series.  Thank you for visiting today.  Tomorrow I am reviewing A Cup of Holiday Fear by Ellie Alexander.  It is the tenth A Bakeshop Mystery.  I hope that you have a cheery day.  Take care and Happy Reading!

Deadly Southern Charm: A Lethal Ladies Mystery Anthology

My Thoughts

Deadly Southern Charm contains eighteen original short cozy mysteries from the Sisters in Crime in Central Virginia along with some guest authors.  These varied tales are all set in the Southern states.  Each unique story features a female sleuth.  These Southern women are feminine yet formidable.  In the South, they are called steel magnolias because “they have strength of steel, yet the gentleness of a magnolia”.  They are short stories that can be read quickly since each one is about ten to twelve pages in length.  The stories are well-written and easy to read. The authors crafted special mysteries that suit this smaller format.  They capture the charm of the South in the setting, language, and attitudes.  My favorite story was Cayce’s Treasures by Lynn Cahoon.  It featured Cayce Andrews who just bought an antique shop in New Orleans.  She finds the owner dead in his office and gets help from the buildings ghost, Harry.  This would make a wonderful prequel to a new series (hint hint).  These brief tales range from light hearted to spooky (like Shadow Man by Brad Harper).  I found some new authors thanks to Deadly Southern Charm.  I thought the stories were a like potato chips.  You cannot eat just one chip or read just one novella (hard to put down).  Cozy mystery fans will be delighted with the eighteen mysteries in Deadly Southern Charm.

Terrier Transgressions (Pet Whisperer P.I. Book 2) by [Fitz, Molly, Press, Sweet Promise]
Deadly Southern Charm is available at Amazon, Wildside, and Wildside eBook.
