My Thoughts

Life and Love at Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke takes us back to Mulberry Lane where The Pig & Whistle is closing for renovations.  Peggy and Able Ronoscki are heading to America on a much-deserved vacation.  Maggie Rowan will handle the food for the bar and the new restaurant while Fay Ronoscki is handling her new catering venture.  Both ladies are excellent chefs, and they want to make of success of both businesses.  Love may derail their plans when an up-and-coming singer sets his sights on Fay and a racing car driver fancies Maggie.  The family is shocked when they receive news that Peggy has been injured, and she is in critical condition.  The family will need to rally together to get through this difficult time.  

Life and Love at Mulberry Lane is the ninth book in The Mulberry Lane series.  While Life and Love at Mulberry Lane can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the series in order to get the full experience.  It is spring of 1961 which brings changes to Mulberry Lane.  Clothes, music, and attitudes are different.  It is great to catch up with Peggy, Able, Janet, Pip, Maggie, Fay, Freddie, and the other characters.  The author has created a great cast of characters for this series.  I find the characters to be realistic and relatable.  As with each book in the series, we are introduced to new characters.  Freddie, Fay, and Maggie are growing up.  While each one of them says they wish to delay getting married until their careers take off, cupid has a way of striking when you least suspect it.  I have enjoyed seeing the characters grow up and begin their own families.  I like how the family members are close and are there for each other.   The people who live on Mulberry Lane are part of the extended family.  We get to see how each member of the family copes with change, setbacks, and injuries.  I thought the accident that injures Peggy and Able suited the time period and events happening in America.  Peggy’s injuries were unexpected.  The author captured 1961 with local and world events, the music references, the books, movies, and the change in people’s attitudes.  I like that we get to see more career opportunities opening for women.  While the younger generation is open to the shift in values, some of the older generation is still clinging to traditional values.  I am looking forward to seeing what happens next with the residents of Mulberry Lane.  Life and Love at Mulberry Lane is a historical tale about family, community, friendship, and love.

My Thoughts

A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke is the eighth novel in The Mulberry Lane series.  I recommend reading this delightful series in order.  It will allow you to get to know the characters and the storylines.  Eight years have passed since Stormy Days on Mulberry Lane ended.  It is now 1958 and the food rationing has finally ended.  We return to Mulberry Lane where the younger generation is now making plans for their futures.  Peggy and Maureen are busy with their businesses and families.  The Pig and Whistle does a bustling business each day as does Maureen’s store which her husband, Gordon runs.  Peggy and Maureen also have their cake shop.  Shirley, Gordon’s daughter, is graduating from medical school and she will be returning home to practice locally.  An illness has Fay rethinking her future.  Freddie, Fay’s twin, needs to decide what he wants to do after school.  Peggy is surprised when Maggie, her granddaughter, expresses interest in working at the pub.  Maggie proves quite adept at cooking and has ideas to improve the pub.  The new generation is growing up quickly and has plenty of ideas but are Peggy and Maureen ready to let go of the reins.  

I enjoyed reading A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane.  I have read every book in the series and each one if better than the last.  Peggy and Maureen have dealt with so much over the years.  The trials are not over yet.  I like how everyone pulls together to help each other out on Mulberry Lane.  This is a well-written series with developed, friendly characters.  Peggy is a woman with great fortitude.  She is the lynch pin for the lane along with her husband, Able.  There is plenty going on in this saga. I am glad that this story focused on Peggy and Able plus Maureen and Gordon plus their children.  We do get to catch up with the others, but they are not the focus this time around.  A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane is one of those books that you do not want to end.  I enjoy catching up with the characters from this engaging series. We get to follow the various characters as they go about their daily lives.  A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane is a charming tale with struggle, loss, love, friendships, grief, health issues, change, perseverance, hope, dreams, and endurance.  A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane is a story that will leave you smiling and eager for the next installment.

Book Summary

Stormy Days on Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke has Peggy Ronoscki happily ensconced on Mulberry Lane running her guesthouse in 1950.  She is glad to be back among her family and friends.  Rose, Sheila, and Janet are all expecting with their babies due within a few weeks of each other.  When Peggy is not busy with her guests, she is baking or helping at the Pig & Whistle.  Able, Peggy’s husband, is looking for a new business venture.  He decides to build housing nearby with the help of Tom Barton.  Peggy takes in a young woman she saw collapse at the market.  The girl, Gillian has been beaten and is very thin.  Soon strange incidents begin happening with the evidence pointing to Gillian.  Sheila gives birth early while her husband, Pip is out of town.   Peggy then receives news that Pip has been in an auto accident and in serious condition.  Sheila is on bed rest which leaves Peggy to take care of her and her the pub though she longs to head to the hospital to by Pip’s side.  With help from her friends and family, Peggy will manage to be there for her family while also managing her guesthouse and pub.

My Thoughts

Stormy Days on Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke is the 7^th book in The Mulberry Lane series.  I recommend reading the series in order, but you would not be lost if you read Stormy Days on Mulberry Lane as a standalone (by why would you do such a thing).    Stormy Days on Mulberry Lane picks up where A Reunion at Mulberry Lane ended.  It is like visiting old friends.  Rosie Clarke has created delightful, developed characters.  Peggy Ronoscki is a strong woman with a big heart.  You can tell how much Peggy cares for her family, friends, and the residents of Mulberry Lane.  She is happy to be back.  I like that she is called “Peggy of the Lanes”.  We get to catch up with Maureen, Sheila, Janet, Rose and Tom Barton, Shirley, and Alice.  Alice is a sweet elderly woman who lives in Peggy’s guesthouse.  She is a grandmother to Fay and Freddy.  Her life has a renewed purpose now thanks to the Ronoscki family.  There is plenty going on in Stormy Days on Mulberry Lane.  Peggy takes in a young woman who needs help, but she soon has regrets when various incident happen.  Shirley Hart is off for the summer to work with Robert and other medical students.  A fellow waitress takes a dislike to Shirley and her belonging begin to disappear.  Sheila, Pip’s wife, goes into labor three weeks early while Pip is away.  Pip is in an auto accident several hours from home and is in severe condition.  Tom Barton’s wife, Rose is pregnant, and Tom begins work on a project with Able.  I like how the residents of Mulberry Lane are there for each other.  When someone is in need, there is always someone to help.  Life is never dull on Mulberry Lane.  I thought Stormy Days on Mulberry Lane was well-written with steady pacing.  I like that the story has mystery and suspense.  We get to see what everyday life was like in London in 1950.  The author captured the time-period which has rationing on many items ending.  Historical events from around the world are included such as the Korean War.  Stormy Days on Mulberry Lane is an emotional novel that will capture your heart.
