When I married my husband 22 years ago, he had a 21-year-old daughter and 16-year-old twins. I was a single mom with a 10-year-old son. I was also a certified, experienced teacher. I could handle it. (Cue laughter) I had no idea what twins were like. I didn’t understand that special language they have with one another. I was perplexed by the way they could be fighting one moment and adamantly defending one another the next. Everything about twins confused me.

Now our children are all grown. They’re adults, and I wonder how the years have passed so quickly. The Amish Twins Next Door is my first book featuring twins, and I enjoyed every minute of writing it. I enjoyed telling a story about a mom who wonders if she will ever have a conventional family—because I was that mom. I also had way too much fun writing about a man who thought he could give parenting advice when he had no children.

Ultimately though, like all of my other books, The Amish Twins Next Door is a book about the over-arching grace of God and how it can carry us through all things. My hope is that you will laugh, maybe cry, and come away from the book feeling uplifted.

My Thoughts

The Amish Twins Next Door by Vannetta Chapman is the ninth book in the Indiana Amish Brides series.  Each book in this charming series can be read as a standalone.  I have enjoyed each book in this sweet series.  I just loved this amusing story.    Two boisterous yet sweet twin boys (who are interested in the new neighbor), a grumpy new neighbor (who just wants to be left alone), and an overprotective mother makes for one entertaining story. I found The Amish Twins Next Door to be well-written with developed, realistic characters.  The story moved along at a quick pace.  I reached the end far too soon.  Deborah is a single mother of busy twin boys.  They live with her parents who believe it is time for Deborah to marry and provide a father for the twins.  They believe the single new neighbor is an excellent candidate.  Nick, the new neighbor, just wants to be left alone to run his farm.  Unfortunately, two little boys keep sneaking over.  Deborah and Nick come up with an arrangement.  He lets the boys help with the goats to help work off some of their excess energy plus give them guidance.  Nick helps Deborah by going out on “pretend” dates with her.  This will get her parents off her back.  You just know things are not going to go as planned.  I laughed often while reading The Amish Twins Next Door.  This was such a merry tale.  I can always count on Vannetta Chapman to provide a diverting story.  This book came along just when I needed it.  There are good life lessons in the story.  I like how faith was woven into the story.  I am eager for this author’s next novel.    The Amish Twins Next Door is an uplifting story with two boisterous boys, guileful goats, long-term targets, pestering parents, a brusque bachelor, a mollycoddling mother, a dating dilemma, and an exultant ending.

My Thoughts

Abigail Yutzy is a widow who is expecting her first baby.  She needs help with her farm, but Abigail will not accept it.  The bishop contacts Thomas Albrecht who is an Amish property manager.  Thomas does what is needed for each of his clients.  Thomas can tell that this job is going to be unique.  Abigail is stubborn and independent.  She does not want to accept help, but Abigail knows that she needs it.  Thomas wants to help Abigail, but first he must find a way to persuade her. 

An Amish Baby for Christmas by Vannetta Chapman is the 8^th Indiana Amish Brides novel.  Each book in the series can be read as a standalone.   An Amish Baby for Christmas is a cute story.  I enjoyed reading it.  I love when a book makes me laugh.  I thought An Amish Baby for Christmas was well-written with realistic main characters.  I enjoyed getting to know Abigail and Thomas.  I felt bad for Abigail who is in the rough stage of pregnancy when your feet swell, your hot all the time, the baby is pushing on the wrong places, you have the need to use the bathroom every half an hour, and you are just plain miserable.  The poor thing could not get her feet into her shoes (she needed a good pair of slippers).  Thomas is a kind man who has a unique business.  I thought he had come up with a clever way to make money.  I loved Mammi Troyer.  She is a sweet woman whose faith is strong and she is just who Abigail needed.  I enjoyed the humor sprinkled throughout the story as well as the wise sayings.  There was one scene with Thomas and a diaper that cracked me up.  We need more feel-good stories like this one.  An Amish Baby for Christmas is a touching Christmas story that will leave you with a smile on your face when you finish it.  An Amish Baby for Christmas is a heartfelt tale with puffy feet, a mothering Mammi, fallow fields, a demanding mother, financial difficulties, and a cheery Christmas.

Happy Book Release Day!  Some of the new books out today are The Words I Never Wrote by Jane Thynne, The Protective One by Shelley Shepard Gray, Careless Whiskers by Miranda James, Witness Protection Widow by Debra Webb, and An Unlikely Amish Match by Vannetta Chapman (paperback version out today).  Which book are you looking forward to reading? An Unlikely Amish Match by Vannetta Chapman takes us on a journey to Goshen, Indiana.  Susannah Beiler is thankful that her cancer is in remission.  Her life has been on hold for the last two years while she underwent chemotherapy.  Susannah feels that no Amish man will want to marry her because she cannot have children.  She wants to move forward with her life, but she is unsure on how to do it.  Micah Fisher from Unity, Maine has been sent by his parents to live with his grandparents for the next six months.  They are hoping that he will mature and become baptized.  Micah does not understand why there must be so many rules.  He sees life a little differently and likes to have fun.  Susannah does not want Micah to break any hearts while in town and agrees to be his companion for his outings.  Micah feels that he will have little fun with Susannah along since she is a rule follower plus she is the bishop’s daughter.  As they spend time together, Susannah discovers a different side of Micah and he brings joy to her life.  Micah finds himself enjoying his time with Susannah.  But then something unexpected happens that could change Micah’s life forever.  

An Unlikely Amish Match by Vannetta Chapman is the fifth book in the Indiana Amish Brides series.  Each book in the series can be read on its own.  I thought the characters were developed and realistic.  I like Vannetta Chapman’s engaging writing style.  I was drawn right into the story and just wanted to keep reading to the end.  Micah Fisher is twenty-five and has been spoiled by his seven older sisters.  He is a rebel with a cocky attitude.  Micah is also a hard worker and a quick learner.  Susannah told her friend that Micah is “trouble wrapped up in suspenders.”  Susannah’s cancer matured her giving her a serious personality.  She follows the rules, does her chores, watches her younger twin sisters (they are a handful) and makes beautiful quilts.  Micah and Susannah are complete opposites which leads to some humorous and playful moments.  I thought it was clever when Micah came up with a way for them to fish at night.  There are also some tender scenes that will touch your heart.  One of my favorite scenes is when Susannah tells Micah about her cancer and not being able to have children.   I like how faith is incorporated into the story.  God directs our paths and he puts certain people in our life for a reason.  His ways are not our ways.  God’s love, forgiveness and prayer are featured Christian elements.  We also see that each day is precious, and we should not waste a moment.  There is a preview of The Amish Widow’s Hope by Marta Perry at the end of the book.  I enjoyed reading An Unlikely Amish Match.  I love it when a story leaves me with a smile on my face when I finish it.  An Unlikely Amish Match is an uplifting story with lively twins, an enterprising Amishman, an earnest maidel, a stubborn grandfather, a compassionate bishop, and surprising situations.

Good Day!  The Governess of Penwythe Hall by Sarah E. Ladd, The Dragons of Bourbon Street by Deanna Chase and A Perfect Amish Match by Vannetta Chapman are a couple of the new books out today.  

Book Summary

A Perfect Amish Match by Vannetta Chapman is the third book in the Indiana Amish Brides series.  Olivia Mae Miller is the local matchmaker with a good success rate, but Noah Graber is not interested in her services.  Noah works as an auctioneer and has just moved back to Goshen, Indiana.  He has had a series of disastrous relationships and has no interest in marriage even though his brother, Justin is happily married after being matched up with Sarah by Olivia Mae.  Noah’s parents, though, are eager for him to settle down and his mother offers him a deal that he cannot resist.  Olivia Mae has three chances to match Noah up with the perfect mate.  She soon discovers why his past relationships failed and her attempts will be equally doomed if she does not give him some practical dating advice.  She soon learns that Noah needs a more hands on approach and she finds herself providing courting lessons.  Olivia Mae finds that she enjoys Noah’s company and even his silly animal jokes.  Olivia Mae never thought that she would marry since she takes care of her ailing grandparents whose conditions seem to be deteriorating.    Is Noah’s perfect match Olivia Mae herself?

My Thoughts

A Perfect Amish Match is an appealing Amish novel.  Vannetta Chapman created likeable and relatable characters that I wanted to know more about (they become friends).  Olivia Mae Miller takes care of her two ailing grandparents.  It has become harder as her grandfather’s memory becomes worse.  He is frail and needs supervision.   Olivia Mae is a sweet, kind, thoughtful woman who has been successful at matching local couples.  She has a good success rate which is why Noah’s family believes Olivia Mae can help Noah.  Noah enjoys being an auctioneer and a bachelor.  He is not interested in settling down and his past dates of been unsuccessful.  The only way to get his well-meaning mother off his back, though, is to agree to let Olivia Mae set him up with three different women.  This is when the fun begins.  Noah is an absolute disaster on dates.  Noah has a lot going for him with his good heart and a solid work ethic. But Noah is absolutely clueless about women and dating.  Noah’s calamitous dates had me laughing out loud.  Olivia takes him under her wing to show him how to properly court an Amish woman.  Noah and Olivia Mae get to know each other. Olivia Mae even finds she likes Noah’s corny animal jokes.  Unfortunately, the road to happiness is never smooth, but full of stones and potholes.  There comes a time when heart wrenching choices will have to made.  I thought A Perfect Amish Match was well-written with steady pacing.  It is such a charming story that will have you chuckling and teary.  A Perfect Amish Match can be read as a standalone if you have not picked up the other novels in the Indiana Amish Brides series.  Christian elements (prayer, faith and God’s blessings for example) are beautifully integrated into the story (enhance the book). Important life lessons are learned by our characters.  God has a hope and plan for each of us and He only wants the best for us.  My favorite phrase is “some people are older when they fall in love and maybe that’s because it takes a while for them to know their hearts”. Vannetta Chapman never fails to provide a story that will touch our hearts.  A Perfect Amish Match is a touching tale that will live with you long after you close the book.
