More from Dana

How could we be at the end of a series? I’ve been having a wonderful time with the Wolfe family and their house full of hounds. The last book is finally Beth’s story. She’s the matriarch of the family who has experienced the loss of a spouse. In this story, she will meet the son she never knew and explore the idea of learning to love again. I feel especially fond of this book because Beth is an older heroine who has some living under her belt. She’s learned how to carry on, with her old dog Arthur, and stand faithfully in the face of adversity. Now that’s a heroine I can root for! I hope you enjoy this final installment of the Security Hounds series!

My Thoughts

Scent of Sabotage by Dana Mentink is the final book in the Security Hounds Investigations series.  This story focuses on the matriarch of the clan and the head of Security Hounds Investigations, Beth Wolfe.  I enjoyed this entertaining story.  I like the humor and tension that Jack St. James brought to the story.  Arthur and Poe were delightful.  I just loved the two dogs and how Arthur took care of the little pup.  The mystery had twists and turns.  I liked that it was not predictable (hooray)!  There is action and suspense that kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next.  I liked the setting of the amusement park because it provided many hidden nooks and crannies. The wildfires closing in really ramped up the fear.  The author provided an ending for the series that will make readers smile.  While Scent of Sabotage can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading all the books in the engaging Security Hounds Investigations seriesScent of Sabotage is a suspenseful story with a blast from the past, an abrupt attack, frightening fires, an AWOL woman, a surprising secret, a precious pup, and an alarming amusement park.

More from Dana

Those bloodhounds are galloping on through this Security Hounds series, aren’t they? Here in book #5, we have Chase and the unbelievably chill Tank. They couldn’t be more opposite. Tank is the kind of dog who only leaves his sunny napping spot when there’s an urgent need to do so. Chase is an energetic, unrestrained, human who gets caught up in the life of the reserved Pilar, a cello player who is simply trying to earn a few extra dollars when her delivery van is forced off the road and she’s kidnapped. That’s only the beginning of the adventure. I hope you will enjoy Tank, who falls deeply in love with Pilar’s cello music, and Pilar and Chase, who definitely got off on the wrong foot when they first met. And what is the object the killer is desperate to get his hands on? Hope you enjoy the ride!

My Thoughts

Detecting Concealed Evidence by Dana Mentink is a compelling tale.  I found myself quickly drawn into the story (and I stayed up late to see how it would turn out).  I liked the unique plot.  I enjoyed getting to know Chase better as well as his K-9 partner, Tank.  Pilar is a strong woman who is doing what it takes to survive and take care of her father.  I like Chase’s family and their dogs.  There was danger, suspense, and mystery.  There was a twist or two that kept things lively.  I was intrigued by the lava tubes mentioned in the story (I had to look them up, so I could see what they looked like).  There was a gentle thread of faith woven throughout the book.  While Detecting Concealed Evidence is the fifth book in the Security Hounds Investigations series, it can be read as a standalone (but I encourage you to read all the books in the series).  Detecting Concealed Evidence is a suspenseful story with an auto accident, a long lava tube, Tank the tracker, bolting from bullets, a helpful family, and dodging danger.

I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.  I will be spending time this afternoon plotting out my front yard Halloween display.  Every inch counts (it is a small yard).  I am grateful that my neighbor on the right allow me to go over to the edge of their driveway (sometimes they even allow me to decorate their yard too).  I will share pictures once I am done decorating (it will take me several days to get everything in place).  Take care and Happy Reading!

Fresh Water Fishery

More from Dana

The only thing more fun that writing about bloodhounds, is adding in some colorful new canine characters who aren’t quite your standard tracking champions. In this book, you’ll get to know Phil who was introduced at the end of book #3. He’s a livestock protector who steps in as a guide for Millie the bloodhound when her vision becomes impaired. Phil takes his job VERY seriously. He flat out refuses to wear a vest, or play with toys, and he doesn’t particularly like people, but he will lay his life down to protect Millie and Kara Wolfe. It was so much fun having this unlikely hero rise to the challenge as Kara and her ex-boyfriend must root out a saboteur on the local fish hatchery property. The secret they unearth will shock you, I hope! Please enjoy the adventure with Millie, Phil, and the rest of the Wolfe pack!

My Thoughts

Following the Clues by Dana Mentink is an intriguing tale.  I enjoyed getting to know Kara and Beau.  I felt for Beau who has prosopagnosia (also known as face blindness). I cannot imagine not being able to recognize your spouse, children, or your parents. I love Kara’s dogs.  I like how Phill and Millie work as a team (sweet Millie can track, but she cannot see).  I loved all the action that kept things lively.  You did not know what was going to happen next.  The mystery could have been more challenging.  I’m glad we got to catch up with the other members of the Security Hounds Investigations (aka Kara’s family).  Following the Clues is the fourth book in the Security Hounds Investigations series.  While Following the Clues can be read as a standalone, I believe it is best to read the series in order (get to know the characters, the dogs, and what Security Hounds does).  I am looking forward to Chase’s (and Tank’s) story.  Following the Clues is a bustling book with a missing mom, a friend with face blindness, paintball pot shots, a dangerous search, sliding rocks, a protective pooch, and sniffing out the solution.

More from Dana

My life has gone to the dogs! No joke! While readers enjoy the Wolfe family humans, I hear on the regular that their favorite characters are the bloodhounds. In book #1, Wally was just an irrepressible disaster, and he continues his naughty ways throughout the series. In book #2, we met Pinkerton who is a model canine, unless squirrels enter the picture. And now, you’ll get to know Chloe who is fabulous, but I will venture to say she is going to be outshined by her mutt companion Brutus (you’ll have to read the book to discover his real name and identity!) As this book launches, I’m deep into writing the last two and there are a couple more unpredictable hounds you have yet to meet. Such fun! Thanks for galloping along with me on this series!

My Thoughts

Hunted on the Trail by Dana Mentink is a suspenseful story.  I liked the action that kept things lively.  Stephanie Wolfe and Vance Silverton need to work together if they are to escape.  This will give them an opportunity to work out their past issues as well (they need something to do while hiding).  My favorite characters were Chloe and Pudge.  Chloe is Stephanie’s tracking dog.  Pudge is just plain adorable, and he has a good heart (he is a scene stealer).  I love the addition of Phil at the end. I hope we get to see how Phil does at his new job in the next book.  The mystery has a good ending along with a twist that may surprise many readers.  I finished the story with a smile on my face.  Hunted on the Trail is the third book in the Security Hounds Investigations series, but it can be read as a standalone  (I bet you will want to go back and read the other books in the series after finishing this one). Hunted on the Trail is a tense tale with a tracking competition, buzzing bullets, a crazed killer, marginal rations, rocky terrain, a scared canine, and freezing rain.
