In Farm's Way by Amanda Flower

 In Farm's Way
Book Summary

When the biggest catch at the annual Ice Fishing Derby is the body of brewmaster Wallace, Shiloh must reel in the killer before her farm goes belly-up.

Shiloh Bellamy still expects the last few Winter months to be busy with repairs, spring planning, and networking with local businesses. She might even be able to broker a new partnership with Fields Brewery and its organic brewer's association. Well, she could if the owner, Wallace, wasn't found murdered at the county Ice Fishing Derby.

Once again, Shiloh gets tangled up in the investigation when the police ignore an entire crop of suspects to blame one of her friends. She'll have to dig deep to find the truth, reel in a killer, and convince her city-slicker pug to wear his winter boots. But with Bellamy Farm still struggling, can Shiloh spare the time to look into the town's fishy characters? Or will her dream farm be the next thing floating belly up?

USA Today bestselling Amanda Flower returns to the Farm to Table cozy mystery series with another exciting sleuthing adventure!

My Thoughts

In Farm’s Way by Amanda Flower is a cute cozy mystery.  We return to Cherry Glen, Michigan where the town is getting ready for the Lake Skegemog Ice Fishing Derby.  Shiloh Bellamy’s father, Sully is participating.  Sully will be fishing with Quinn Killian, a friend of Shiloh’s, and his twelve-year-old daughter, Hazel.  After dropping off Sully, Shiloh and Huckleberry, her cute pug in his orange winter coat and boots, are heading off the ice when they stumble upon someone under the ice.   Wallace Fields, a local brewery owner, has served his last brew.  Shiloh gets a distraught call from her bestie, Kristy.  Unfortunately, Kristy’s husband, Kent is in hot water.  Kristy wants Shiloh to investigate and get her husband off the hook.  Shiloh dons her deerstalker cap and begins asking questions.  Shiloh will have her work cut out for her if she is to reel in the worm who turned Wallace into fish food.

In Farm’s Way is the third book in the Farm to Table Mysteries.  While it can be read as a standalone, I think it is best to read the series in order.  It will allow you to get to know the characters and the town.  I like Amanda Flower’s writing style.  It is lighthearted and friendly.  The characters are relatable and quirky.  Shiloh Bellamy is a former television producer who is working to turn Bellamy Farm organic.  She takes her cute pug, Huckleberry with her everywhere.  Huckleberry is not a fan of his new winter boots.  I had to laugh at the descriptions of Huckleberry shaking his various limbs trying to rid himself of the boots.  I like the balance between the lighthearted moments and those that are more somber or reflective.  An example is when Shiloh sees her father with Hazel and wishes he had been like that with her when she was a child.  The mystery kept Shiloh on her toes.  As she asks questions, Shiloh’s suspect list grows longer.  She needs to be discreet because law enforcement has warned her (multiple times) to keep her nose out of the case (like that is going to happen).  The reveal was suspenseful and entertaining.  We get to learn about cherry beer (how it is created) and organic farming.     The author weaved all the elements together to provide a delightful tale.  In Farm's Way had me laughing often.  I am eager to read the next Farm to Table Mystery to learn how Shiloh fares on her first date with an unexpected fellow.  There is a recipe for suet (winter food for the birds) at the end of the book.   In Farm’s Way is delightful tale with ice fishing fun, a pooch’s uncomfortable boots, a cherry craft beer competition, a bumped off brewer, and a sleuthing Shiloh.

In Farm's Way will be out on February 24 and it can be preordered from Amazon*.  The other novels in the Farm to Table Mysteries can be found here.  You can find Amanda Flower's other entertaining stories here.  Amanda Flower has Blueberry Blunder publishing on May 23.  It is the eighth An Amish Candy Shop Mystery.  Thank you for joining me today.  I will return on February 28 with Beyond the Gray Mountains by Tricia Goyer.  It is the first A Big Sky Amish Novel.  I hope you have an entertaining weekend.  My weekend is all booked!  Take care and Happy Reading!

Put Out to Pasture by Amanda Flower

 Put Out to Pasture
Book Summary

There's fowl play afoot on the farm

Shiloh Bellamy has saved her family's farm from financial ruin—but now what? She's barely scraping by on the farm's new organic business model and the fall festival she organized to drum up business comes to a screeching halt when the body of a prominent townswoman is discovered underneath a scarecrow in a nearby field. Worst of all, the evidence points to Shiloh's childhood best friend, Kristy, as the prime suspect.

Between cooking up delicious treats made with her farm's produce, convincing her cantankerous father to let her do things her own way, and dealing with a newcomer in town who could be serious competition for her customers, Shiloh doesn't have time to wade into a murder investigation. But with a killer on the loose and suspicious activity circling closer and closer to Shiloh and the people she loves, she realizes there's nothing to do but roll up her sleeves and get down to the dirty work of finding the killer and clearing Kristy's name once and for all.

My Thoughts

Put Out to Pasture by Amanda Flower has Shiloh Bellamy hosting Fall Daze at Bellamy Farm.  Shiloh has baked up hundreds of her organic treats to sell to the attendees.  Shiloh is surprised at how many people showed up for the event and stay even after the loud argument between Kristy Brown and Minnie Devani (attendees got an extra show).  The last of the festival goers are leaving for the day when Shiloh hears a woman screaming.  Quinn and Shiloh race over to find Minnie dead at the foot of the scarecrow.  Evidence at the scene points to Kristy as the guilty party.  Shiloh is quick to dig into the case.  She is not about to let her bestie go away for murder.

Put Out to Pasture is the second Farm to Table Mystery.  It can be read as a standalone if you have not read Farm to Trouble.  I like Amanda Flower’s engaging writing style.  I know when I start one of this author’s books, that I will quickly be drawn into the tale.  The characters are delightful.  They are warm, friendly, and relatable (there are one or two exceptions).  Shiloh Bellamy is working hard to restore Bellamy Farm despite her father’s negative comments and unhelpfulness.  I enjoy the descriptions of the Bellamy Farm and the surrounding area.  The author’s word imagery brings the scenery to life.  The mystery was a fun one to solve.  The victim was not well-liked, which means there were several good suspects.  There is misdirection to distract you from the true killer.    The clues are there if pay close attention.  The reveal wraps up the whodunit nicely.  I thought Amanda Flower created a fun and unique mystery.    I just love Shiloh’s little pug. He is a cutie.  Shiloh has additional trouble when the other half of Bellamy Farm is sold by the developers to Tanner Birchwood who has the same vision as Shiloh.  I am looking forward to Shiloh’s next adventure.  Put Out to Pasture is a refreshing tale with a fun fall festival, deep fried delights, a scarecrow crime scene, a framed friend, a precious pug, a new can-do neighbor, and a cunning killer.

Farm to Trouble by Amanda Flower

Book Summary

Farm to Trouble by Amanda Flower has Shiloh Bellamy returning home to Cherry Glen, Michigan after fifteen years.  Her father needs her help revitalizing the family farm.  Shiloh intends to turn it into an organic farm-to-fork farm with, eventually, a cafĂ©.  In order to accomplish her goals, Shiloh needs an investor and her father left it up to her.  Unfortunately, Shiloh picked the wrong man with Jefferson Crocker who has his own agenda.  Shiloh had no idea that the man has been buying up surrounding land for a wind farm that the whole town is against.  Shiloh arrives at the farmer’s market to meet Crocker the next day and finds him dead from a gunshot wound next to the honey booth.  The owner of the booth is quick to point her finger at Shiloh as the guilty party.  Police Chief Randy Killian has Shiloh at the top of his suspect list as well as her father, Sully.  Before Shiloh can get to work on fixing up the farm, she must find Crocker’s killer.

My Thoughts

Farm to Trouble by Amanda Flower is the first book in A Farm to Table Mystery series.  It contains Amanda Flower’s engaging writing style that makes the story easy to read.  The author took the time to develop the characters and establish the setting.  Shiloh Bellamy left Cherry Glen, Michigan fifteen years ago after the death of her fiancĂ©, Logan.  Her father, Sully injured his back and has asked Shiloh to return to help with the family farm.  She quits her job, sells her home, and cashes in her 401K.  Unfortunately, her father had sizeable debts which took all of Shiloh’s funds.  She now needs an investor if she is to restore the farm and make it a success as an organic farm.  Unfortunately, Shiloh is not privy to the local gossip and picks the wrong man to invest in the venture.  When the investor ends up dead, Shiloh along with her father are prime suspects.  Shiloh talks to various people in the town trying to get information to help her solve the murder. I hope we see more active investigating in future books along with action.  There were little things that pointed at the killers’ identity.  There is a secondary mystery involving money that Grandma Bellamy saved and hid away for Shiloh.  She needs to figure out the clues if she wants to find it and save the farm.  I like that we get to know Shiloh, her father, her cousin, various friends of Shiloh’s, and some of the townspeople.  I enjoyed the descriptions of the Cherry Glen and the farm.  Huckleberry, Shiloh’s pug dog, is a show stealer.  He is such a cutie.  Other scene stealers are Esmerelda the cat and Hazel, Quinn Killian’s eleven-year-old daughter.  I have a feeling there will be a romance blooming between Quinn and Shiloh in the future.  I thought the author captured the small town feel especially with the people’s attitudes.   This was a cute story that I enjoyed reading.  I look forward to the next A Farm to Table Mystery.  Farm to Trouble is a charming cozy mystery with gossip galore, an insatiable investor, a high-strung hound named Huckleberry, tasty cherry treats, a cute convertible, and a mystifying treasure quest.

Farm to Trouble is available from Amazon*.  Amanda Flower has Lemon Drop Dead coming out April 27.  It is the 6th book in An Amish Candy Shop Mystery series.  You can find Amanda Flower's other novels here.  Thank you for visiting today.  Tomorrow I am reviewing Werewolves of London by Angie Fox.  It is the third and final book in The Monster MASH Trilogy.  I hope that all of you have a cheery day.  Take care, be kind, and Happy Reading!
