Jemma hasn’t been to the tiny Rocky Mountain town of Clear Creek in years, but when her grandmother tells her something strange is going on, Jemma drops everything to return and help untangle the clues.
She arrives to flashing lights, a house full of police, and the news that her grandmother has been killed with her own yarn. After learning she inherits everything, Jemma is faced with the choice of casting on a new life by reopening her grandmother’s yarn shop or returning to her live-out-of-a-suitcase life as a travel vlogger.
One thing’s for sure — she’s not leaving town until the mystery of her grandmother’s death has unraveled. But when the deputy in charge of the investigation ignores clues Jemma stumbles upon, she decides to do her own poking around. Because her grandmother was right — there is something strange happening in Clear Creek.

My Thoughts
The Yarn that Binds by Rebecca McKinnon is the debut of the Clear Creek Mysteries. This is a charming cozy mystery. I liked the author's writing style which made the story easy to read. I enjoyed getting to know Jemma as well as Brandon, Emmeline, Granny, and Kitty. The characters are friendly (most of them) and relatable. Jemma is a modern woman who loves technology. She can be a touch headstrong at times, but she has a good heart. I like that we also get to see her vulnerable side. Jemma is a coffee addict, but she only likes quality coffee beans. Brandon knew Jemma growing up. You can tell that he cares for Jemma and wants to protect her. Brandon brews quality coffee but he refuses to tell Jemma where he gets his beans. It is one way to ensure that she keeps in touch and a reason for him to visit her. I love how Brandon kept trying to evade Charlotte. Emmeline is a Southern bell that Jemma meets on the bus to Clear Creek. I love her quaint Southernisms. She has a few that I had not heard previously. Kitty was Jemma’s best friend growing up, but Jemma failed to keep in touch. Kitty has lost her zest for life and appears scared at times. It is obvious that Kitty needs some female friends. Granny is a hoot. She has more energy than women in their twenties. She adds liveliness and humor to the story. I enjoyed the descriptions of Clear Creek (sounds like a great town to visit). Mary worked hard to revitalize Clear Creek so they could attract tourists. The mystery had two victims and a few threats. There are a handful of suspects and a red herring (or two). Jemma does ask questions around town and she gets intel from her new circle of friends. I am not a fan of Deputy Chase. I did not like his attitude and the way he treated Jemma. I wish he had been a friendlier small-town cop. I was able to solve this whodunit early in the story, but I did not know the why until later. I liked the reveal scene. There are wonderful yarn descriptions in the book. Jemma found beautiful fibers on her travels. I enjoyed reading The Yarn that Binds. I look forward to my next visit to Clear Creek. The Yarn that Binds is reminiscent of Maggie Sefton's A Knitting Mystery series (which I love). I was sorry to see that series end, so I am glad I have a new series to take its place. The Yarn that Binds is a crafty cozy with fun fibers, a gone grandmother, a dogged deputy, a disrespectful developer, a lofty fence, a plethora of patterns, and a vlogger investigator.
