Room on the Porch Swing: Questions & Answers Session with the Characters Plus a Giveaway!

Hello!  We are chatting with the characters from a Room on the Porch Swing by Amy Clipston today.  Here is my summary of the second book in An Amish Homestead series:

Room on the Porch Swing by Amy Clipston is An Amish Homestead Novel.  Laura Riehl lives in Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania where her best friend, Savilla Lambert has passed away.  It has been less than a year since Laura’s mother died and now her best friend passes after a quick illness.  Allen Lambert and Savilla were married such a short time and now he is a widower with a baby girl to raise.  The following summer, Irma Mae falls in Allen’s kitchen and her injuries require surgery.  Irma Mae, Savilla’s mother, has been Mollie’s caretaker and now Allen must find someone to watch her while he is working.  Laura offers to care for Mollie until Irma Mae recovers.   Allen and Laura soon discover that they can talk truthfully (open and honestly) to each other. They find their chats on the porch swing helpful and comforting.  Rudy, Laura’s beau, is not happy with the time she is spending at Allen’s home and he becomes resentful.  As time passes, Laura becomes comfortable wit h caring for Mollie and her feelings for Allen begin to change.  But she has been dating Rudy for four years and is not sure she should give up on their relationship.  The time is approaching when Laura will need to make a choice.

Mark, now that your sister and Allen are in a relationship, how do you feel?
Is there a certain girl that has caught your attention that you would like to
pursue a relationship with?
I’m happy for Laura, even though I cautioned her to be careful in the beginning. I see now that her relationship with Allen is solid. As for me, well, I’m still young. I’m not really ready to settle down, and I’m enjoying my time with my friends. I’m not in a hurry to get married. I suppose I’ll know when I find “the one.”

Laura you vowed to have everyday count, what did you do specifically to see the day differently?
I make a point tell my family members that I love them every day. I also take a moment to take in God’s beautiful creation – the flowers, the sunset, the birds, and all of the beauty he brings into our lives. I also make a point to pray often and thank God for my family.
Laura how did it feel stepping into the role of instant (step) mother and wife?
At first I found myself doubting my ability to be Mollie’s mother, but Allen encouraged me. I’m so grateful that he always believes in me. I’ll never replace Savilla, but I do the best I can. I’m so thankful to have Allen and Mollie in my life. I thank God for choosing me for Allen and Mollie.

Allen, what special memories does the porch swing bring to mind?
The porch swing makes me think of when Laura and I first got to really know each other. We spent our time on the porch swing sharing our most private thoughts. That was where our friendship grew and we realized we shared a deep connection.

Allen, will you always have room for Laura on The Porch Swing?
Of course! She’ll always have room on my porch swing and in my heart.

Allen what made you jump at Laura's offer to help with Mollie?

Since Laura and Cindy frequently visited Savilla and Mollie, I knew Mollie would feel comfortable with Laura. I trusted Laura to take good care of Mollie.
Allen when did you realize that your loss of Savilla was a blessing in disguise with the faith and help from Laura?
I’m not sure losing Savilla was a blessing, but I’m grateful God brought Laura into my life and Mollie’s life. Laura is a blessing to both of us, and I will love her for the rest of my life.
