The Amish Baker's Rival by Marie E. Bast

Book Summary

The Amish Baker’s Rival by Marie E. Bast has Mary Brenneman determined to have her family bakery succeed when a rival bakery opens across the street.  Englischer Noah Miller moved his siblings to Kalona, Iowa so they could learn more about their Amish grandparents.  He soon realizes the small town cannot support two bakeries.  The upcoming Fall Apple Festival would provide great exposure for the winning bakery plus the prize money would come in handy.  Mary would use the prize money to update and expand Sweet Delights.  Noah’s younger sister, Emily is lonely with her older siblings busy with work.  She ventures to Sweet Delights where Mary and her assistant, Amanda teach Emily how to bake and become the little’s girl’s friends.  While Noah may be her business and baking rival, Mary knows she can help him learn about his grandparents.  As the pair spend time together, feelings begin to develop between them.  But then the rivalry between them draws media attention which results in a larger prize and more contestants.  Mary could lose her bakery if she does not win.  Will the contest nip their blossoming romance in the bud?

My Thoughts

The Amish Baker’s Rival by Marie E. Bast is a heartwarming Amish novel. Rival bakers, a baking contest with a large prize, and man wanting to learn about his grandparents make for an entertaining story.  I thought the story was well-written with steady pacing.  It contains good characters with little Emily stealing the show. We get to see the characters develop as the book progresses. The rivalry between Noah and Mary provided a great way for the characters to interact.  The romance slowly builds throughout the book which I like.  This is a nice clean, wholesome story.  Noah wants to find out about his Amish roots and Mary assists him.  The information is slowly dispersed throughout the story.  It kept me turning the pages because I wanted the full story regarding the Miller family.  Reading The Amish Baker’s Rival is a delightful way to spend an afternoon.  I enjoyed reading this lighthearted Amish tale and I appreciated the epilogue which nicely wrapped up the book.  I look forward to reading Marie E. Bast’s next Amish story.  The Amish Baker’s Rival is a meet-cute Amish tale with bountiful baked goods, contest competitiveness, a sizable prize, a bothered bishop, a grumpy grandfather, and two tenacious bakers.

The Amish Baker's Rival is available from Amazon* along with other major retailers.  You can find Marie E.
