Love by Design

Love by Design by Evie Knight is a contemporary romance.  Amanda “Mandy” Roberts is twenty-five years old and lives in Santa Monica, California.  She is currently working as an assistant to Eloise, a spoiled heiress with a nasty temper.  When Mandy is not working she is designing shoes.  She would love to be a shoe designer, but Mandy lacks confidence in herself and her designs.   

Tristan James owns the local bakery called I’ve Got You, Cupcakes!  Tristan is twenty-eight and loves baking cupcakes.  He has issues though!  Tristan does not commit in relationships.  His average time with a woman is three months.  He grew up in an abusive home with a drug dealer for a father (who also liked to rough him up) and an alcoholic for a mother.  When he was taken away from his parents, he spent time in and out of foster homes.

Mandy spends time each weekend in Tristan’s shop drinking coffee and designing shoes.  Mandy does not eat sweets.  She was chubby as a child and was ridiculed.  Mandy keeps herself thin by avoiding fattening foods.  When she is offered a free cupcake one Saturday by Tristan, Mandy runs out of the shop!  Tristan finds her two weeks later at another coffee shop and asks that she return.  He has missed seeing her.  Mandy returns and they start getting to know each other.

Mandy and Tristan are destined for a tumultuous relationship because of their issues.  There is also jealousy, misunderstandings, and a troublesome neighbor/business partner.  Can they get over their hang ups?  Is there a future for Mandy and Tristan?  Read Love by Design to find out.  I give Love by Design 2.5 out of 5 stars.  It is nicely written, but it was just not my cup of tea.  Love by Design does contain graphic sex scenes and foul language.
