The Amish Man of Ice Mountain by Kelly Long is the second book in The Amish of Ice Mountain series. Joseph King is away from the mountain with
his younger brother, Edward, working at Commodore Gas Drilling Rig in West
Virginia. Joseph does not like it, but he feels he needs to keep an eye on
Edward (who spends a lot of time drinking and playing cards). They work four weeks on and two weeks
off. On his weeks Joseph likes to spend
his time in town at the Bear Claw Inn run by Mary (call her Mama) Malizza. During his recent stay Joseph meets her newest
staff member, Priscilla Allen. Of
course, when they meet he is only wearing a towel (he just got out of the bath
and was expecting his brother). Joseph
finds out that Priscilla is living in her car with her daughter, Hollie. They are running from her abusive ex-husband,
Heath. Despite the divorce Heath still
wants to control Priscilla (and he likes to do it by taking Hollie).
Joseph tells Priscilla that he
knows of a safe place and he is willing to take her. Priscilla agrees and they head to Ice
Mountain, Pennsylvania. The Bishop
agrees to let Priscilla and Hollie stay in their community. He assigns Joseph as Priscilla’s prayer
partner. Hollie is tired of running and embraces life
on Ice Mountain.
We also get to see how Mary and
Jude are doing. Mary is pregnant with
their first child and Jude is teaching at the school. They agree to take in Priscilla and Hollie. Abner King is lonesome in the house by himself
and is happy to see Joseph. Joseph does
not think that he will ever marry. There
is something in his past that he cannot get over and has never revealed to
anyone. Priscilla has her abusive husband
as well as an abusive father as baggage.
Edward returns to the mountain and finds that life has kept moving on
while he was away. His intended, Sarah,
has taken up herbal healing while he was gone.
She is more confident. Edward
does not know if he likes the changes. Will Priscilla and Joseph be able to unload
their baggage and move forward with their lives? Will Heath find Priscilla and Hollie on Ice
Mountain? To see what happens read The Amish Man of Ice Mountain.
I have tried to just give you an
overview of the book. There are several
story lines in the book (and I did not want to put any spoilers in my review). I give The Amish Man of Ice Mountain 4.25 out of 5 stars.
It is a lovely story but very similar to the first book. I like that we are getting a view of a
different Amish culture. The ice mine
sounds fascinating (I would love to see it). There are some great characters in the book as
well as the lovely setting.
I received a complimentary copy
of this novel from NetGalley (and the publisher) in exchange for an honest
review.
The Amish Man of Ice Mountain will be out on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Book release day is my favorite day of the week! Thank you for visiting and have a great week! Happy Reading!
